Marion von Tilzer

The Austrian born pianist/composer Marion von Tilzer started playing the piano at the age of
eight. Her principle piano teacher was the American pianist Suzanne Bradbury. In 1989 she came to
Amsterdam to study classical piano at the Sweelinck Conservatory, a.o. with Ludmilla Baslawskaja.
She has worked extensively with different composers performing their new works. In 1999 she
co-founded the group Aros together with the Canadian Saxophonist/composer Rob Armus, a
classical-Jazz fusion band. They released two cds and toured for some years. Other
collaborations include classical singer Janice Jackson, Indian singers, Sandhya Sanjana, Neela
Bhagwat, which whom she has different collaboration projects.

Marion has performed in festivals and venues such as International Vancouver Jazz Festival,
Toronto Downtown Jazz Festival, North Sea Jazz Festival, Holland, Aldeburgh Festival, The Ocean,
London, Ultima Festival, Oslo, Lulijana Festival for contemporary Art, Frankfurt Ballet Festival,
Bimhuis, Amsterdam, Kunsthalle, Vienna, Wiener Musikgallerie, Concertgebouw, Amsterdam,
Funkhaus, Köln. She has written music for dance, film and television. She’s been comissioned to write two
pieces for the Radio Symphony Orchestra of the WDR in Cologne. One of the pieces was premiered
in April 2008 during the Lange Nacht, the 60 Year Anniversary concert of the Orchestra. The other
piece will be premiered later this season. In October 2008, her latest CD 'Kirvani Revisited' with her
new ensemble was released on the Dutch label 'Challenge Records'. In January 2010 her new production "The Blue Planet - Homage to Mother Earth", a transcultural music-dance performance was successfully premiered at the Orgelpark, Amsterdam.
